2024 International Festival
Our biggest event is here at last! It’s been two years since the community got together to share culture, language, food, and friendship with everyone! Thanks to our volunteers and community, we’re ready for a day of World Adventure together!
Join us for Stage Performances, Culture Booths, and Food Stalls from people from all over the world! Residents from a variety of countries will be introducing their culture/countries, and groups related to international exchangeand cooperation will be showcasing their activities! We even have a stamp rally!
Come step into the future beyond, right here in Aizu!

Got a talent to show off? Just want to take this chance to get up there? From poetry to freestyle jazz, stand up comedy, skits or even dad jokes, come along on the day, get up on stage and perform. Isn’t this an adventure too?

Aoi HS Presents: BOOK CLUB📚
Every year, Aoi High School has their students head out into the community and embark on independent research projects. MUTO Konoka, a second year student, has chosen to try her hand at organizing an event!
Join us for an afternoon perfect for book lovers. Enjoy international exchange and expand your world by telling others about a book that you love! Bring along your favourite book available in English, Japanese and/or more languages to talk about and hear from others about theirs!
The event will take place using Japanese, so we recommend having conversational/basic Japanese.

Speak Japanese in a casual way with many people and have fun with Japanese culture. It’s Sports Day season! Join us for some games like 玉入れ (tama-ire, ball-in) and a fun table tennis ball relay!

"FIND" English Conversation Club
FIND English Convo. Club will be held at the Fukushima Pref. Museum this month! Come chat and learn about the museum and Fukushima’s history!
FIND was designed by and for high school students, with the aim of creating a space for English learners to practice casual conversation skills.
Although the club is mainly for students, adults with high English proficiency may also apply to join FIND as a language volunteers.

Newsletter Prep and Refreshments
Help us to prepare our newsletters for mailing! On the last Saturday of every month, from 1:30 PM to 3:00 PM,
AWIA members gather at the AWIA to fold and mail next month’s edition of the newsletter.
Come enjoy talking with other members while you help out the association. It’s also an excellent chance to put your Japanese to use!

🍁Autumn Japanese Classes will be start!🍁Give your Japanese skills a boost!
The AWIA will soon be starting our autumn semester of Japanese language courses. With the aid of our experienced volunteer teachers, we offer courses ranging from beginner-level to advanced. Our classes strike a balance between reading, writing, and conversational skills. Class sizes are small, and some students may even have 1 on 1 lessons! Online lessons are also available on request.

Online Japanese Class!
The Aizu Wakamatsu International Association is now offering online Japanese language classes!
Study from home at the time that works best for you! Our volunteer teachers will work with you to match your language level and study goals.
【Time】:
Choose your preferred 1-hour time slot between 10:00 and 20:30 any day of the week.
*There may be cases where a student’s first choice time slot is unavailable.
【Number of Classes】:
12 Sessions / 1hr per session
【Place】:Online via Zoom or Skype
【Fee】:
4,000 JPY for 12 Sessions (Annual AWIA membership of 2,000JPY is required to register.)

Children Nihongo Hiroba
Does your child struggle with Japanese in school?
Does he or she always feel one step behind everyone else in class? Let us help!
Going to school in a foreign language is challenging, but your child is not alone.
At Children Nihongo Hiroba, your child can meet, speak and study with other people just like them!
We offer a space to address any questions your child may have about school work or Japanese, and give them the opportunity to use their native language.

Due to low foot traffic, the Aizuwakamatsu International Association Office will be CLOSED on Sundays starting in July.
We will continue holding events on Sundays but our office will be closed to visitors.
