2025 AWIA Members Meeting



 Join us for our Annual Members Meeting on June 7th! First, there will be a General Assembly with a report of activities from 2024 (budget report, and event look-back.) Attendance postcards will be sent out in mid-May. Please let us know your attendance, or absence, by May 30th (Fri).
 After the General Assembly, there will be a Special Speaker! We know everyone must be curious, so NIWA Emi, the new Office Manager will tell us all about her background and experience, so come hear about the new face at AWIA! (Check out her profile on SynthesAizu Page 3!)
 We will also be holding an After-Party! Join us for a dinner party at Restaurant & Bar Beans. Sign up early!

"MEET" English Conversation Club


Introducing MEET (My English Exchange Time) our English convo club. The name may be new and we may try new things, but we’ll always have fun. Come and speak English with people from all walks of life. Everyone is welcome, no matter your English level.

Newsletter Prep and Refreshments

Help us to prepare our newsletters for mailing! On the last Saturday of every month, from 1:30 PM to 3:00 PM, AWIA members gather at the AWIA to fold and mail next month’s edition of the newsletter. Come enjoy talking with other members while you help out the association. It’s also an excellent chance to put your Japanese to use!

The AWIA will soon be starting our autumn semester of Japanese language courses. With the aid of our experienced volunteer teachers, we offer courses ranging from beginner-level to advanced. Our classes strike a balance between reading, writing, and conversational skills. Class sizes are small, and some students may even have 1 on 1 lessons! Online lessons are also available on request. Come kick-start your Japanese skills with us this spring!!

Online Japanese Class!

The Aizu Wakamatsu International Association is now offering online Japanese language classes! Study from home at the time that works best for you! Our volunteer teachers will work with you to match your language level and study goals.

【Time】:
 Choose your preferred 1-hour time slot between 10:00 and 20:30 any day of the week.
  *There may be cases where a student’s first choice time slot is unavailable.

【Number of Classes】:
 12 Sessions / 1hr per session

【Place】:Online via Zoom or Skype

【Fee】:
 4,000 JPY for 12 Sessions (Annual AWIA membership of 2,000JPY is required to register.)

Children Nihongo Hiroba


Does your child struggle with Japanese in school? Does he or she always feel one step behind everyone else in class? Let us help! Going to school in a foreign language is challenging, but your child is not alone. At Children Nihongo Hiroba, your child can meet, speak and study with other people just like them! We offer a space to address any questions your child may have about school work or Japanese, and give them the opportunity to use their native language.

The 1st and 3rd Saturday of each month,
15:00 ~17:00 (depending on child’s age and needs)

Important Notice!


Due to low foot traffic, the Aizuwakamatsu International Association Office will be CLOSED on Sundays starting in July.
 We will continue holding events on Sundays but our office will be closed to visitors. Stop by anytime from Tuesday to Saturday~ We would love to see you.
